Started as an U7 squad with enough players to fill Barden school gym literally. The only thing to do was make two teams, Readstone Utd Yellow was born alongside Readstone Utd Blue. The Yellows run by Steve Bell and Mik Birtkes and the Blues by Russ Bentley. As an U7 side we had a couple of Friendlies with Cihteroe Wolves. Then into the North Valley league as an U8 team, only to be told the league was also a friendly league, allegedley?? We had a fair to good season but with no league points/table published we would have been in the top 3. Season 2009/2010 as an U9 side this is where it matters and league position and points to be played for, as of now 7 out of 8 league wins see us top at Christmas.
Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
